Christ Church has long been famous for its role as a spiritual haven to America’s Founding Fathers. Now this colonial-era church is embracing a new role: presenting “Sarah’s Story,” a dramatization that reminds visitors of Philadelphia’s history as a slave-holding city.
Alice of Dunk’s Ferry, according to historians, was the daughter of slaves brought to Philadelphia on the Isabella, the first slave ship to dock. She spent her life gathering stories about the city and its people.
Christ Church has won one of Philadelphia’s theater awards, a Barrymore, for its creative collaboration with the Arden Theater in presenting Thornton Wilder’s play, “Our Town,” last spring.
