A Walk on Bishop White’s Streets – Virtual Talk

November 15 @ 6:00 pm

Free

In celebration of Christ Church’s 328th anniversary and the 275th anniversary of William White’s birth, Libby Browne, historian of St. Peter’s, will be presenting a virtual lecture entitled “A Walk on Bishop White’s Streets: A Look at his Life and the Houses of Worship in his City.” She will be joined by St. Luke’s vestry member Phoebe Griswold who will discuss the amazing story of the discovery of the Bishop White portrait by artist Henry Inman at St. Luke’s in Germantown.

William White served as the rector of the United Churches of Christ Church, and St. Peter’s (and for a shorter time St. James), from 1779 until his death in 1836. He would have been a familiar face on the streets of Philadelphia, a city that welcomed worshippers of many different denominations.

A walking tour accompanying the program will be presented by the Christ Church Preservation Trust in early December and an exhibit will be mounted in Christ Church and Neighborhood House.
