Author Anne C. Bailey will join us to discuss her book The Weeping Time: Memory and the Largest Slave Auction in American History. Over 400 men, women, and children were sold by the Butler Plantation estates in 1859. This book analyzes the operation of this auction and traces the lives of slaves before, during, and after their sale. This talk is free but advanced registration is required.
