Weeping Time Remembrance in the North Garden
March 5 @ 11:00 am

The Weeping Time auction was held in Savannah on March 2 and 3, 1859. 426 enslaved people were sold away from their families and community by Pierce Mease Butler, who is buried in the Butler family tomb in our North Garden. We will be holding a reading of their names in the garden after church on Sunday, March 5 immediately after service, to acknowledge that the presence of the Butler tomb is hurtful to African Americans who should find a refuge from racism at Christ Church, rather than a reminder of it. If you'd like to participate, please speak to Kaye Pyle.
