SUMMARY:Run Ben Run
DESCRIPTION:From Philadelphia favorites Applied Mechanics comes a spectacular new show\, RUN BEN RUN: a maniacal\, surreal satire starring famous Bens from throughout American history\, from Ben Franklin to Ben Affleck. Thrown together on a film set with the goal of making a movie about the John Gast painting American Progress\, the Bens wrestle with identity\, fame\, and the versions of American identity that live within each of us. The play surrounds the audience with a panoply of different offerings from the different Bens. Will Ben Affleck be able to finish his movie without his star\, Ben Franklin? Will Ben Vereen dance his way out of danger? Will Benedict Arnold clear his name? And will Benito Antonio Ocasio Cortez (Bad Bunny) finally write the song to bring us together? The Bens begin to wonder: can they rewrite history? Or should they just… run away? \n  \nUsing drag\, choreography\, pastiche\, and an absurd original script\, some of Philly’s favorite performers craft a spectacle that tears apart the underlying assumptions about American Progress.

SUMMARY:Speaker Series: The Banker Who Made America: Thomas Willing
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a fascinating talk on Thomas Willing\, the merchant-banker who financed the Revolution and shaped America’s financial system. \n\n\n\n\nOn July 1\, 1776\, Thomas Willing voted against the Declaration of Independence\, believing the colonies weren’t ready. Yet once the war began\, he and his partner Robert Morris put their personal credit and merchant fleet on the line to supply the army with food\, arms\, and gunpowder. \nWilling went on to build the nation’s financial architecture from scratch. As President of both the Bank of North America and the First Bank of the United States\, he personally oversaw more than a third of all bank loans made in the entire nation during his career. \nJoin us for an engaging presentation on Richard Vague’s book\, The Banker Who Made America\, as we explore how a forgotten Philadelphia merchant built America’s first financial aristocracy and shaped modern American capitalism.
